Why Ukraine?

Our hearts weep for Ukraine a proud and peaceful people devastated by war. Thousands will die, millions will be displaced. Where is God in this?

Many blame Putin, some blame the west for boxing him in. Ultimately this war is a reminder that the whole world is under God’s judgment because of sin. God has subjected this world to futility. Jesus taught his disciples to expect wars, famines and natural disasters and persecution as they take the gospel to the ends of the earth.

Why has a loving God done this? Because there’s something more important than our comfort. The weight of human suffering is a reminder of the seriousness of human rebellion against God for which Christ is the only solution.

God holds the nations in the palm of his hand. Most of the time he’s in the business of restraining evil. Times of relative peace and prosperity are a gift of his grace, but too often we take his grace for granted. His gifts are meant to lead us to repentance. His judgments in this life are a last resort to waken a sleeping world before it is too late.
